Linux Devices Software Engineer – Embedded Linux QA

About the role

As a Linux Devices Software Engineer you will work with the latest Linux kernel and open‑source technologies to deliver Ubuntu for cutting‑edge IoT and server‑class hardware. You will integrate, maintain and optimise device‑oriented software stacks while collaborating with globally distributed teams.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the latest Linux kernel and open‑source components.
• Deliver Ubuntu for IoT and server‑class platforms.
• Integrate and maintain device‑focused software stacks.
• Write high‑quality, well‑designed code.
• Collaborate proactively with distributed engineering teams.
• Provide technical leadership within internal groups and external communities.
• Help customers ship applications and SDKs on Ubuntu.
• Build device OS images using Ubuntu Core, Desktop and Server.
• Optimise the Ubuntu kernel and libraries for silicon‑specific capabilities.
• Debug issues and produce robust fixes.
• Contribute to technical documentation.
• Act as technical lead on complex customer engagements spanning cloud to edge.
• Work primarily from home with occasional travel for company events.

Required profile

• Exceptional academic record in high school and university.
• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, STEM or a compelling alternative path.
• Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
• Passion for Linux or embedded systems software (kernel, graphics, Yocto, etc.).
• Fluency in at least one of Golang, C, C++, or Rust.
• Professional written and spoken English.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
• Self‑motivated, accountable and able to travel twice a year for up to two weeks.
