About the role
The International Rescue Committee is seeking a dedicated Maternity Nurse to provide high‑quality maternal and neonatal care in its supported health facilities. You will work closely with doctors, clinical officers, auxiliary nurses and theatre staff to ensure safe, compassionate care for mothers and newborns.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive antenatal care, including regular check‑ups, vital sign monitoring, diagnostic test ordering and health education.
- Manage labour and delivery using partographs, provide physical and emotional support, administer prescribed medications, and conduct normal vaginal deliveries, breech and assisted vaginal deliveries when needed.
- Provide post‑natal care, monitor for complications, support early ambulation, and educate mothers on breastfeeding and family planning.
- Identify obstetric and neonatal emergencies early, initiate timely interventions, and coordinate referrals.
- Prepare and process referral documentation, equipment and medication for patient transfers.
Required profile
- Registered nurse with experience in maternal and neonatal care.
- Strong clinical judgement and ability to assess and stabilize mothers and newborns.
- Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team within a humanitarian health setting.
Required skills
- Use of partograph for labour monitoring.
- Neonatal resuscitation techniques.
- Administration of antibiotics, uterotonics and analgesics.
- Familiarity with AMSTEL protocols.
