Security Officer – UN Women Nairobi

About the role

The Security Officer will provide strategic, operational and technical security support to UN Women’s Kenya Country Office, the East and Southern Africa Regional Office and other UN Women offices in Nairobi. Reporting to the Country Representative and the Regional Security Specialist, the incumbent will lead risk management, compliance, incident response, training and business continuity initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Advise management on security risks, threats and mitigation measures.
• Monitor and implement UN and UN Women security policies and procedures.
• Conduct security risk assessments for personnel, premises, operations and field missions.
• Manage security incident preparedness, response, reporting and follow‑up.
• Coordinate with UNDSS, government security agencies, UN entities and external partners.
• Develop and maintain security plans, communication systems and personnel tracking mechanisms.
• Ensure compliance with Security Risk Management Measures (SRMM) and related frameworks.
• Deliver security awareness, crisis management and business continuity training.
• Support mission planning, security clearances, residential security measures and travel security.
• Supervise and build capacity of Security Focal Points across supported offices.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Security Management, Risk Management, International Relations, Law or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible security management experience.
• Proven experience conducting security risk assessments and supporting field operations.
• Fluent English; knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
• Valid Class B driving licence.
