Senior Assistant Director of Medical Services – Anaesthesiologist

About the role

This senior clinical position is based in Makueni County’s public health system, where you will lead specialised anaesthesia services, manage complex patient cases and guide a multidisciplinary team to ensure high‑quality care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert diagnosis and evidence‑based treatment for anaesthesia patients, including high‑risk and complex cases.
• Lead daily ward rounds and clinical reviews, coordinating treatment plans and ensuring continuity of care across shifts.
• Supervise, mentor and evaluate medical officers and junior staff in the anaesthesia department.
• Oversee quality assurance, compliance with clinical protocols and continuous improvement of service delivery.
• Collaborate with hospital management to develop strategic plans, resource allocation and training programmes for the department.

Required profile

• Diploma or higher qualification in Medicine with a recognised specialisation in Anaesthesiology.
• Mandatory experience in a senior clinical or supervisory role within a public health setting.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex cases and lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong commitment to professional ethics, patient safety and continuous learning.
