Senior Product Manager (AI-Native) - Remote

About the role

Umba, a pan-African digital bank operating in Kenya and Nigeria, is hiring a Senior Product Manager to own product strategy and execution end to end: discovery, specification, delivery, launch and the metrics that follow. The role works across existing product lines such as credit, savings and deposits, payments and foreign exchange, and partners with senior leadership on future bets. It is an AI-native environment where the team uses tools like Claude Code, Claude Design and Codex to spec, prototype and ship.

Key responsibilities

• Own the roadmap and run customer discovery with borrowers, savers, SMEs, business operators and freelancers, sizing opportunities and validating hypotheses against production data
• Make prioritisation calls across product lines and track competitor moves, translating them into product decisions
• Write tight, unambiguous product and technical specifications that engineers and AI coding agents can implement directly
• Prototype in Claude Design and code and ship small PRs yourself with Claude Code when faster than handing off
• Drive delivery end to end: scope, timeline, quality, and run the cadence with Engineering (standups, sprint reviews, bug triage)
• Coordinate stakeholders across leadership, Engineering, Data, Credit, Operations, Risk, Compliance and Marketing, and align scope and ship dates
• Tie initiatives to revenue, growth or risk metrics, review AI-generated work for correctness and business fit, and own launch communications and internal enablement

Required profile

• 5+ years in product management, with direct experience shipping consumer or SME products in fintech, banking, lending or payments
• Track record of owning outcomes measured by metrics such as revenue, active users, default rate or deposit growth
• Strong stakeholder coordination and written communication; able to read production data and financial regulatory guidance
• High agency, comfortable reading and writing code enough to ship a small PR with an AI coding agent

Required skills

• SQL fluency, or willingness to learn it quickly
• Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools such as Claude Code, Claude Design and Codex
• Preferred: credit and deposit product experience, exposure to FX, cross-border payments, stablecoins or virtual accounts, and prior work in emerging markets
