Accounts II – Accounting Officer

About the role

The Thika Technical Training Institute is seeking an Accounts II to support its finance and accounting functions. This full-time position will handle cash flow, ledger maintenance, and month-end closing activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting for the institute.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare weekly cash‑flow statements and short‑term liquidity forecasts.
• Maintain imprest registers and ensure timely surrender of funds with proper documentation.
• Compile and post general‑ledger entries for cash, revenue, and expense transactions.
• Execute month‑end closings, including journal entries, balance‑sheet reconciliations, and trial‑balance adjustments.
• Produce monthly financial statements and other ad‑hoc reports.
• Monitor accounts receivable and support auditors with schedules, reconciliations, and explanations.
• Verify expenditures before issuing payment vouchers, cheques, and remittances.
• Perform bank, cash, and statutory‑levy reconciliations, and reconcile the assets register with the ledger.
• Maintain secure storage of all financial and accounting documents.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance), Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Business Management or equivalent.
• Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) examination or an equivalent qualification.
• Demonstrated merit and competence in previous work performance.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computer accounting packages.
