Area Manager – Multi‑Sector Programme Lead in Tana River

About the role

The Area Manager will lead Concern Worldwide’s multi‑sectoral programmes in Tana River County, Kenya. This senior position oversees programme planning, field team management, budget control and emergency response coordination while representing the organisation at the county level.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership for the implementation of agriculture, health, nutrition and governance programmes, ensuring alignment with donor guidelines and Concern policies.
• Develop and monitor costed work plans, quarterly budgets and procurement schedules, updating them as needed.
• Coordinate with internal teams and implementing partners to integrate interventions such as climate‑smart agriculture, value‑chain development and community health strategies.
• Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary field team, setting SMART objectives, conducting performance reviews and ensuring compliance with organisational policies.
• Track programme expenditures, review financial reports and adjust budgets to achieve >90% expenditure efficiency.
• Oversee monitoring, evaluation and learning activities, including field visits, data collection and reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Economics, Agronomy, Agribusiness, Environmental Science, Disaster Management or related field.
• Minimum five years of experience managing multi‑sectoral programmes in an NGO or development context.
• Proven ability to lead field‑based teams, manage budgets and engage with county stakeholders.
• Willingness to be based in Tana River County and conduct extensive field work.
