Assistant Director – Internal Audit & Risk Assurance

About the role

The Assistant Director, Internal Audit & Risk Assurance will lead the design, execution and monitoring of internal audit programmes and risk assurance activities for the Kenya Veterinary Board. This senior position ensures robust governance, compliance and protection of the Board’s assets through independent assurance and strategic risk oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the development, implementation and review of audit policies, strategies, standards and guidelines.
• Provide independent assurance on the design and operation of risk‑management processes.
• Facilitate audit assignments in line with the approved audit work plan and ensure compliance of records and documentation.
• Monitor and report on the Board’s overall risk profile and the effectiveness of audit recommendations.
• Initiate and lead information systems audit engagements, including testing, evaluation and reporting.
• Safeguard assets by verifying existence, ownership and valuation, and evaluate internal control systems.
• Manage investigations, track progress of cases and support divisions in risk profiling.
• Coordinate implementation of new technologies and business applications.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years at Principal Internal Auditor level or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration; Master’s degree in Business Administration (Accounting/Finance) preferred.
• Membership in ICPAK, IIA, ISACA or a comparable professional body, with a valid practising certificate.
• Completion of a recognised leadership course of at least four weeks.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
