Assistant Fund Accountant – Nairobi

About the role

Reporting to the Assistant Manager – Client Relations, the Assistant Fund Accountant prepares portfolio valuations, reconciles fund accounts and delivers quarterly management and annual audited financial statements in line with SLAs and statutory requirements. The role aims to enhance client satisfaction and service delivery within the pension fund sector.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and present pension fund management accounts, budgets, cash‑flow statements and annual audited financial statements to trustees in accordance with RBA and IFRS.
• Handle an assigned client portfolio of investments, including assessment, computation and payment of quarterly and annual income tax and RBA levies.
• Analyse and capture data received from fund managers and custodians on a monthly basis.
• Perform monthly reconciliation of members dealing in the pension system and prepare cash book and bank reconciliations.
• File investment returns for guaranteed fund schemes and prepare scheme financial statements for filing with the RBA.
• Reconcile guaranteed fund bank statements and receipt of contributions and transfers.
• Analyse and process pension benefits, expenses and service provider fees.
• Assist in training interns and support client AGMs through preparation and response to member queries.
• Maintain compliance with SLAs, legal and regulatory requirements, and report system issues for swift resolution.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a business‑related field or actuarial science.
• Professional qualification such as CPA(K) or ACCA.
• At least 2 years of fund accounting or pension industry experience.
• Awareness of RBA, ICPAK and KRA regulatory requirements.
• Good knowledge of an accounting system.
• Strong analytical and organisational abilities with high accuracy.
• Effective communication skills.
