Assistant HR Manager – Hospitality (Masai Mara)

About the role

The Assistant HR Manager will lead and manage all human resource functions for safari lodge and camp operations in Masai Mara. This role ensures legal compliance, effective workforce planning, high staff engagement, and service excellence while supporting both local and expatriate employees in a remote hospitality environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee end‑to‑end HR operations including recruitment, onboarding, contracts, payroll coordination, leave management and employee records, ensuring compliance with the Kenya Employment Act and Data Protection Act.
• Manage recruitment for hospitality roles, liaise with community leaders for local hiring, coordinate expatriate work permits and control recruitment costs.
• Act as primary point of contact for employee relations, grievance handling, disciplinary processes and represent the company during labour inspections.
• Implement performance appraisal systems, support departmental heads in setting KPIs and address under‑performance with corrective actions or training.
• Coordinate training programs on service excellence, health and safety, HR compliance and leadership development, and ensure induction for new and seasonal staff.
• Support payroll processing, manage benefits such as medical cover, meals, accommodation and statutory deductions, and benchmark wages against industry standards.
• Ensure health, safety and staff welfare compliance, promote wellbeing and coordinate emergency preparedness in remote locations.
• Develop, review and enforce HR policies, SOPs and employee handbook, and prepare monthly HR reports on headcount, turnover, absenteeism, training and labour costs.
