Assistant Librarian (Grade E/F)

About the role

Mama Ngina University College, a constituent college of Kenyatta University, is recruiting an Assistant Librarian (Grade E/F) to maintain the University College Library. The post holder works under the guidance of a senior officer and is responsible for the general maintenance of the library.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure smooth and efficient running of library services and maintain the library database
• Index and abstract journal articles
• Prepare work plans for junior officers and coordinate their activities
• Prepare departmental quarterly reports
• Supervise charging and discharging of library resources to users
• Coordinate reference and referral services for library patrons
• Distribute publishers' cataloguers to faculty deans and department heads
• Catalogue and classify newly acquired resources and verify bibliographic details
• Maintain and operate library management systems and edit stock
• Teach library skills and user education, and offer ICT services to users

Required profile

• Earned Master's degree in Library Studies, Library Science, Information Science or equivalent from a recognised institution
• OR earned Bachelor's degree in the same fields or equivalent
• Six years of relevant work experience, three at Senior Library Assistant Grade C/D or comparable
• Registered with a relevant professional body
• Demonstrated merit and ability, proficiency in computer applications
