Assistant Manager Business Development – Broker Business

About the role

The Assistant Manager Business Development will support the growth of non‑medical insurance business by managing broker relationships and driving premium generation. You will act as a bridge between brokers, underwriting teams and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Manage broker relationships to achieve targeted premium outputs.
• Process quotations, transmit them to brokers, and monitor pipeline business.
• Develop and enforce Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with brokers and coordinate with underwriting teams.
• Champion cross‑selling initiatives for corporate clients and handle special assignments.
• Collect market intelligence, assess competitor activity and identify new opportunities.
• Deliver financial targets for gross written premium, loss ratios and cross‑selling.
• Oversee debt‑management processes for brokers and control travel, events and promotional expenditures.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory licensing and onboarding requirements for brokers.
• Prepare accurate production and management reports and represent the department when needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a business‑related field (Actuarial Science, B.Com Insurance, Business Administration).
• 7‑10 years of sales management and business development experience in insurance, with at least 5‑6 years in general insurance and a managerial role.
• Professional insurance qualifications such as ACII, Diploma in Insurance (UK) or AIIK, Diploma in Insurance (Kenya) or equivalent progress.
• Higher diplomas in Business, Commerce or Management Studies.
