Assistant Manager – Internal Controls

About the role

The Assistant Manager – Internal Controls will support the Internal Controls & Compliance function, ensuring the bank’s operations meet internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. The role focuses on risk‑based control assurance, testing, and remediation coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Support design, maintenance, and periodic review of the Internal Control Framework in line with CBK Prudential Guidelines, COSO principles, and the bank’s risk appetite.
• Execute risk‑based control testing across business units, validate design and operating effectiveness, and document outcomes for audit and regulatory review.
• Track internal control weaknesses, coordinate remediation action plans with business owners, and escalate high‑risk issues to senior management.
• Liaise with Internal Audit, Compliance, Risk Management, Operations, and Business Units on control findings and improvement actions.
• Prepare internal control and compliance reports for Management and the Board Risk Committee, providing trend analysis and emerging risk insights.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management or related field; Master’s degree is an asset.
• 4–6 years’ experience in internal controls, compliance, risk management, internal audit or operations within a bank or regulated financial institution.
• At least 3 years in a second‑line or assurance role, with experience in control testing, audit issue tracking, and remediation.
• Professional risk or audit certifications (e.g., CIA, CPA(K), ACCA) are advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
