About the role
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Kenya seeks an Assistant Master Trainer (SC 6) to strengthen its Farmer Field School (FFS) and Farmer Business School (FBS) programmes. Working under the FAO Representative and the Project Coordinator, you will provide technical leadership, mentorship, and hands‑on coaching to facilitators and extension officers.
Key responsibilities
- Adapt FFS and FBS curricula, training modules, and facilitation guides to local agro‑ecological and market conditions.
- Co‑facilitate Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions for facilitators and government extension officers.
- Conduct routine supervision visits to farmer groups, offering on‑site guidance and ensuring adherence to participatory learning methods.
- Provide technical assistance on agronomy, climate‑smart agriculture, group dynamics, participatory experimentation, and business development within targeted value chains.
- Support facilitators in data collection, attendance tracking, documentation of innovations, field trials, and farmer behavioural change.
- Compile field reports, case studies, and success stories for dissemination at project and stakeholder forums.
- Facilitate linkages between FFS/FBS groups and service providers such as input suppliers, market actors, and financial institutions.
Required profile
- Relevant experience in agricultural extension, farmer training, or similar capacity‑building roles.
- Strong understanding of participatory learning approaches and farmer‑led experimentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with government officers, NGOs, and private‑sector partners.
