Assistant Relationship Manager – Commercial (Coast)

About the role

The Assistant Relationship Manager supports the Commercial portfolio on the Coast, ensuring sustainable profit through excellent customer service, business development and risk management. You will act as the primary contact when the Relationship Manager is unavailable and help drive digitisation of client interactions.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the principal point of contact for commercial clients in the Relationship Manager’s absence, maintaining and developing relationships.
• Coordinate introductions to other areas of Absa Group, monitor outcomes and support business‑development presentations.
• Research and identify new target customers, manage leads and track them in the lead‑tracking system.
• Drive customer digitisation, aiming for 80%+ usage of digital or alternate channels.
• Maintain accurate client information in internal systems and ensure timely updates.
• Conduct full customer due diligence, support credit application preparation and facility reviews.
• Monitor risk, compliance and governance controls, adhering to internal policies and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in team meetings, contribute to continuous improvement and uphold service standards such as Net Promoter Score targets.

Required profile

• Relevant undergraduate degree from a recognised university.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in banking, sales or customer‑service roles.
• Strong understanding of banking products and commercial lending processes.
• Ability to work independently, meet commitments and collaborate with internal stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills and a professional approach to client interactions.
