Associate Advocate

About the role

The Associate Advocate will support James Oketch and Company Advocates in delivering high‑quality legal counsel and representation to a diverse client base in Nairobi. Working closely with senior lawyers, you will contribute to case strategy, document preparation and client interaction.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct in‑depth legal research and analysis on statutes, case law and complex legal issues.
• Draft, review and revise contracts, pleadings, briefs, opinions and other legal documents.
• Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations and court proceedings.
• Manage a caseload, including strategy development, filing deadlines and document organization.
• Provide timely legal advice to clients on a wide range of matters.
• Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
• Assist in business development activities such as client relationship management and networking.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognized institution.
• Admission to the Kenyan Bar as an Advocate of the High Court with ≤1 year post‑admission experience.
• Strong legal research, writing and analytical abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage complex legal matters with professionalism and integrity.
• Background in legal writing or mooting.
