Senior Legal Counsel – Aviation & Commercial Law

About the role

The Senior Legal Counsel will be the primary legal advisor for Kenya Airways, providing proactive guidance on all current and anticipated legal matters across the network. The role supports business strategy by identifying, communicating and mitigating legal risks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and preventive lawyering to the hub and all outstations, identifying significant obligations, risks and opportunities.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, joint‑venture agreements, financing documents, aircraft leases and procurement tenders.
• Lead the company’s litigation strategy, manage external counsel and oversee fee structures.
• Prepare and review corporate instruments, ensure board and committee approvals, and manage governance documentation.
• Oversee intellectual property portfolio in collaboration with external counsel and marketing.
• Deliver competition law advice, conduct compliance training and support licensing and registration matters.

Required profile

• LL.B from a recognised university; CPS‑K qualification mandatory.
• At least 8 years senior management experience in a listed company or busy commercial environment, preferably in aviation or commercial law.
• Demonstrable knowledge of aviation, commercial legislation and relevant regulations.
• Strong analytical, documentation and presentation skills with ability to influence at senior levels.
• Proven team‑leadership experience, including performance development and mentorship.
