Associate Editor

About the role

APX Luxury is looking for an Associate Editor to shape the voice and editorial direction of a new digital publication focused on luxury, fashion, design, travel and culture across Africa. You will work closely with editorial leadership to conceptualise, write and edit original stories while building the brand’s editorial playbook.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualise and develop editorial content, including story ideas, franchises, series and features that align with the brand’s positioning.
• Create and maintain a comprehensive content playbook covering voice, tone, style guidelines, content pillars, formats, SEO standards and publishing workflows.
• Plan and manage the editorial calendar, aligning content with cultural moments, industry events and brand priorities.
• Edit stories for clarity, accuracy, structure, tone and consistency with the brand’s voice.
• Research, report and write original features, profiles, interviews and essays on luxury, fashion, design, travel, business and personalities across Africa.
• Ensure all content is digital‑first and SEO‑forward, collaborating with digital and social teams to maximise reach and engagement.
• Uphold rigorous standards for fact‑checking, attribution, names, titles and cultural accuracy.
• Track content performance and use audience insights to refine editorial strategy.

Required profile

• 5‑7 years of experience in journalism, publishing, luxury, fashion, lifestyle or culture media, including at least 2 years in an editing role.
• Proven ability to conceptualise content and contribute to editorial strategy.
• Excellent command of English with a strong individual writing voice and the ability to elevate the work of others.
• Deep knowledge of African and international culture and an understanding of the diversity of markets and creative scenes across the continent.
• Meticulous about facts, names, titles and details, and comfortable managing multiple projects, contributors and deadlines at speed.
