Automation Technician - Utilities (Water)

About the role

The Automation Technician is a core member of the Utilities team, responsible for installing, operating, maintaining and optimising automation systems that support Tatu City’s water supply and wastewater infrastructure. The role combines hands‑on troubleshooting with continuous improvement of smart‑metering and control solutions in a fast‑growing urban environment.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and commission PLC‑based automation systems and HMIs.
• Troubleshoot and repair faults in automated equipment and control systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, calibration and on‑site verification of smart water meters.
• Work with engineers to design and improve automation processes and validate system functionality.
• Prepare and review tender documents, technical specifications and support bid evaluations.
• Maintain asset registers, maintenance logs and other technical documentation for audits.
• Manage and monitor the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) platform, including inventory of meters and related equipment.
• Investigate potential meter tampering, report discrepancies and collect data for network optimisation.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Automation or a related field.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience designing, operating and maintaining industrial automation systems.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Membership with relevant professional bodies is an advantage.
