Base Communications Operator Supervisor

About the role

Amentum is looking for a supervisor for the Base Communications Operator (BCO) position in Mombasa, Kenya. The role leads the installation, operation and maintenance of the Base Telecommunications Distribution System and supervises the communications systems that support base communications infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the installation, operation and maintenance of the Base Telecommunications Distribution System and all its components.
• Maintain and support telephone switching systems, switchboards, inside plant infrastructure, station equipment, customer premise cabling and outside plant fiber optic and copper cable systems.
• Ensure proper delivery, configuration and operation of telecommunications systems, and monitor their performance to ensure operational readiness and reliability.
• Supervise, train and mentor personnel assigned to communications system operations and maintenance, assigning priorities and monitoring performance.
• Promote compliance with safety procedures, technical standards and organizational policies.
• Verify proper installation, testing, commissioning and documentation of telecommunications components.
• Coordinate and document scheduled inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and service calls, and oversee the lifecycle of communications infrastructure including repairs, upgrades, replacements and testing.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues while minimizing system downtime.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical education or military communications training preferred.
• Valid passport valid for at least one year at the time of hiring, and ability to obtain country-specific visas and pass contract medical requirements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials and authorization.
• Ability to read, speak and understand English to the extent required by the contract.
• Preferred: prior experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce, a valid driver's license, and experience with Base Telecommunications Distribution Systems and telephone switch systems.

Required skills

• BICSI Registered Technician certification.
• Industry-recognized manufacturer certifications.
• Telecommunication certifications such as AT&T or Cisco.
