Biochar Compliance Specialist (Fixed-Term)

About the role

The Biochar Compliance Specialist will lead the compliance function for One Acre Fund's Tupande biochar facility in Kenya. Reporting to the Biochar Lead, you will oversee both the Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) programme and the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programme.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain the facility’s HSE programme, including risk registers, emergency response plans and safety procedures.
• Deliver HSE training, inductions, toolbox talks and emergency drills for all staff.
• Coordinate third‑party HSE testing and audits (fire safety, emissions, occupational health).
• Develop and manage the MRV system that captures feedstock, production, quality and carbon‑removal data.
• Ensure data collection is accurate, consistent and traceable to external carbon standards.
• Support lab and quality technicians in data recording and verification preparation.
• Serve as the primary liaison with external verifiers, auditors and regulators such as NEMA and DOSH.

Required profile

• Proven experience in HSE programme design and implementation within an industrial setting.
• Familiarity with carbon verification standards and MRV processes.
• Ability to train staff and lead safety initiatives across multiple shifts.
• Strong coordination skills for working with auditors, regulators and third‑party verifiers.
