Building Caretaker – Commercial Property (Mombasa)

About the role

The Building Caretaker will be responsible for the day‑to‑day maintenance and operational safety of a busy commercial property in Mombasa. This full‑time, onsite position ensures that all building systems function smoothly and that tenants receive prompt support.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine interior and exterior inspections and carry out minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Monitor power supply, distribution boards and backup systems, troubleshooting faults and coordinating with external electricians when needed.
• Maintain water tanks, pumps, drainage and address plumbing emergencies quickly.
• Serve as the first point of contact for tenant maintenance requests, logging and tracking issues until resolved.
• Supervise cleaning services, ensuring common areas remain tidy and compliant with standards.
• Check fire safety equipment, emergency exits and overall building safety compliance.
• Coordinate with security personnel to control access and report incidents.
• Plan preventive maintenance schedules, keep accurate logs and recommend cost‑saving improvements.
• Respond to urgent situations such as power failures, water leaks or safety hazards.

Required profile

• Certificate or diploma in a technical field (electrical, mechanical or related).
• At least 3 years of caretaker experience in a busy commercial environment.
• Proven ability to handle technical repairs and maintenance of building facilities.
• Basic plumbing knowledge is an advantage.
