Card Engineer (1 Year Fixed Term Contract)

About the role

A leading financial institution in Kenya, represented by Stratostaff East Africa, is hiring a Card Engineer on a 1-year fixed term contract in Nairobi. Reporting to the Manager, Card Systems / Head of Cards Technology, the engineer designs, develops, implements and supports enterprise card payment solutions across issuing, acquiring and payment processing platforms, working with Enterprise Architecture, Technology Risk, Information Security and external vendors.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop card payment solutions with Enterprise Architects, evaluating technical options and translating business needs into technical designs.
• Lead implementation of card payment solutions across issuing, acquiring and payment processing platforms, using agile delivery and providing end-to-end support from development through production.
• Coordinate host certifications and manage white plastic, digital wallet and terminal certification; support mandatory enhancement releases from Visa, Mastercard, UPI and JCB.
• Evaluate emerging card payment technologies and recommend improvements.
• Work with Technology Risk and Information Security teams on security requirements, vulnerability remediation and regulatory compliance.
• Partner with internal teams, vendors and payment schemes, coordinating vendor activities and providing technical guidance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Information Technology or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years managing card payment systems in banking and 5 years in banking operations with strong exposure to card payment technologies.
• Experience with card management platforms and agile project delivery.
• Knowledge of card issuing, acquiring, payment processing and digital payment ecosystems, and of Visa, Mastercard, UPI and JCB certification processes.
• Experience with enterprise solution architecture and systems integration.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of technology security principles and risk management in financial services.
• Transware experience is an added advantage.
