Cargo Officer

About the role

The Cargo Officer is responsible for delivering superior service to existing and potential customers, working directly and with Ground Handling Agents (GHA). The role ensures efficient day‑to‑day cargo operations, monitors GHA performance, and resolves operational issues.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organise and coordinate cargo operational activities to achieve optimal efficiency and productivity.
• Monitor GHA service against EK standards, address shortcomings and implement process improvements.
• Resolve delays, disruptions, cargo mishandling and transfer issues.
• Compile and review cargo documentation for flights, ensuring compliance with local regulations and company policies.
• Oversee post‑flight activities, including dispatch of messages, forwarding documentation and maintaining station files.
• Investigate and respond to queries, complaints and claims from internal and external customers.
• Motivate, train and evaluate staff, conduct performance appraisals and manage corrective actions.
• Deputise for the Cargo Manager or act as Duty Manager when required.

Required profile

• Educated to A‑Level (or equivalent) with at least 5 years of cargo operations experience, including 3 years as a Senior Cargo Agent, or a degree with at least 2 years of experience and 1 year as a Senior Cargo Agent.
• Previous team‑leading experience and completion of supervisory training.
• Fluency in English and the local language.
• Legal right to live and work in Kenya.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Dangerous Goods regulations and a valid DG certificate.
• Understanding of Advanced Load Control, Weight & Balance procedures and Live Animal Regulations.
• Proficiency with PC applications: Microsoft Word, Excel and email.
