Casual Cafeteria Worker

About the role

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education is seeking on‑call Casual Cafeteria Workers for the 2026‑27 school year. You will prepare and serve meals to students and staff while upholding the School Food and Nutrition Policy.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and serve food in a fast‑paced cafeteria environment.
• Maintain daily logs for temperature, cleaning, food preparation, consumption, and composting.
• Place food orders with approved vendors when requested.
• Ensure food safety standards and hygiene practices are consistently followed.
• Perform kitchen duties such as dishwashing, waste sorting, cleaning, and restocking supplies.
• Interact positively with students in the lunch line, respecting their food choices.
• Support the school recycling program and other ad‑hoc duties.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Food Safety Training (can be provided).
• Experience in food service or related training preferred.
• Understanding of food allergies and related conditions.
• Ability to pass a recent Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry searches.
