Chief Program Officer

About the role

The Chief Program Officer (CPO) will lead the delivery of SHOFCO’s flagship programs, turning community power into measurable impact at scale. Reporting to the CEO, the CPO is responsible for operational excellence across education, gender‑based violence response, water access, and youth empowerment initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and oversee the operational systems that drive program outcomes for the Integrated Investment in Vulnerable Children (IIVC) and Youth Voice and Empowerment (YVE) initiatives.
• Scale the SHOFCO Urban Network (SUN) across all Kenyan counties, ensuring effective civic engagement and advocacy.
• Monitor and evaluate program performance, interrogate lagging indicators, and act on quarterly MEL reports.
• Collaborate with program directors to address challenges, optimize processes, and meet targets for education, GBV case management, and water service expansion.
• Ensure alignment with funder expectations while the CEO and Advancement team manage external relationships.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑impact services to over 2.5 million community members.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience leading large‑scale program delivery in the nonprofit or development sector.
• Strong analytical mindset, comfortable reviewing data, indicators, and MEL reports.
• Demonstrated ability to build and manage operational machinery that translates strategy into results.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, working closely with program directors, funders, and community partners.
• Commitment to SHOFCO’s mission of community‑led change.
