Clearing & Forwarding Manager

About the role

AGL (Africa Global Logistics), a multimodal logistics operator (port, logistics, maritime and rail) in Africa and part of the MSC Group, is hiring a Clearing & Forwarding Manager based in Nairobi. Reporting to the head of international freight forwarding, the manager leads all customs clearance, import and export processing and regulatory compliance, overseeing cargo movement through customs and logistics channels while ensuring compliance with local and international trade regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and oversee import and export customs clearance, including timely processing of declarations, permits, licenses, duty payments and cargo release.
• Coordinate sea freight, air freight, road transport and warehousing, and monitor cargo status to resolve delays and bottlenecks.
• Ensure compliance with customer SOPs, service level agreements, customs laws and revenue authority requirements, and lead customs audits with accurate records.
• Maintain relationships with customs authorities, port authorities, government agencies, shipping lines, airlines, transport providers, port operators and customs brokers, and negotiate service improvements.
• Monitor departmental profitability and costs, review and approve invoices for customs duties, freight and transport charges, and support budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
• Build relationships with key customers, work with commercial teams on customer retention, handle escalated issues and complaints, and take part in customer reviews and performance meetings.
• Lead, coach and develop the Clearing & Forwarding team.

Required profile

• Business degree.
• Diploma in Logistics and Distribution or equivalent.
