Clerk of Works – Construction Supervision

About the role

MEDS is constructing a warehousing facility and office block in Kisumu County. Reporting to the CEO, the Clerk of Works ensures that all construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, safety standards and quality requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor construction works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications and quality standards.
• Inspect and verify materials delivered to the site for conformity with specifications.
• Monitor workmanship across architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades.
• Maintain detailed site records, including daily diaries, defect registers and instruction books.
• Act as liaison between architect, project manager, consultants, contractors and senior management.
• Report deviations, defects and non‑conformities promptly and follow up on corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements such as GMP, GSP and GDP.
• Prepare and submit progress reports on work progress, quality and site conditions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or a related field.
• Professional certification or membership with a relevant body (e.g., Institute of Clerk of Works, Engineers Board of Kenya).
• Minimum five years’ experience supervising large‑scale construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, standards and regulatory requirements for health‑product storage.
• Familiarity with health, safety and environmental requirements on construction sites.
