Clinical Addiction Nurse – Prison Healthcare (Band 6)

About the role

The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust (SEHSCT) is recruiting a Band 6 Clinical Addiction Nurse to provide specialist addiction services within Hydebank Prison. This permanent position offers the opportunity to work in a unique healthcare environment, supporting inmates with substance‑use disorders.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive addiction assessment, treatment planning and monitoring for prisoners.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary prison health teams, including doctors, psychologists and security staff.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with HSC policies and regulations.
• Provide health education, harm‑reduction advice and support for relapse prevention.
• Participate in on‑call duties and emergency response as required.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (NMC) with current registration.
• Experience in addiction nursing or substance‑use disorder services.
• Ability to work in a secure prison environment and adhere to safety protocols.
• Strong communication skills and capacity to build therapeutic relationships.

Required skills

• Registered Nurse qualification.
• Addiction nursing experience.
• Prison healthcare experience (or willingness to train).
