Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse – Prison Healthcare (Band 7)

About the role

The Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse provides senior nursing leadership within Hydebank Prison, delivering high‑quality healthcare to the incarcerated population. This Band 7 permanent role combines clinical expertise with management responsibilities to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise nursing staff, coordinating shift patterns and workload.
• Assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to prisoners, including acute and mental health needs.
• Manage medication administration, clinical documentation, and infection‑control procedures.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, external health services, and prison authorities.
• Ensure compliance with NHS standards, health and safety regulations, and prison policies.
• Participate in audit, quality improvement, and staff development activities.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (NMC) with current registration.
• Significant experience in acute or mental health nursing, preferably within secure settings.
• Demonstrated leadership and team‑management abilities.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary environment.
• Commitment to delivering patient‑centred care in a challenging environment.
