Communications and Research Intern

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a Communications and Research Intern to support the Land, Housing and Informal Settlements Section (LHISS) within its Global Solutions Division. This six‑month, full‑time, unpaid internship is based in Nairobi and offers the chance to contribute to the development of knowledge products and communication materials that promote sustainable urban development.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and format knowledge products such as policy briefs, data analyses, case studies, and human‑interest stories in collaboration with technical teams.
• Draft, edit, and adapt communication materials—including articles, newsletters, and social‑media content—to support advocacy and knowledge‑sharing initiatives.
• Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations related to land, housing, and informal settlements.
• Collaborate closely with the Associate Programme Officer and LHISS colleagues to ensure alignment with UN‑Habitat standards and objectives.

Required profile

• Enthusiasm for urban development, land management, housing, and informal settlements.
• Ability to work under the supervision of a staff member and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to a full‑time schedule (five days per week) for the six‑month internship period.
