Communications Officer

About the role

The Association of Microfinance Institutions – Kenya (AMFI‑K) is seeking a Communications Officer to lead the development and execution of communication strategies that amplify its mission and programmes across members, partners, media and the public.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans aligned with organisational objectives.
• Draft, edit and distribute press releases, speeches, announcements and other external communications.
• Create content for newsletters, website, and social media platforms.
• Coordinate media outreach, manage relationships with journalists and monitor coverage.
• Oversee internal communication channels to ensure consistent branding and messaging.
• Support event communications, including campaigns, conferences and stakeholder engagements.
• Collaborate with programme teams to capture success stories and impact data.
• Prepare regular communication reports and analytics.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field (preferred).
• Proven experience in strategic communications and media relations, preferably within the financial inclusion, micro‑finance or development sector.
• Excellent written and verbal English with strong editing abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
