Counselling Officer II (IPOA)

About the role

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is recruiting a Counselling Officer II (Grade IPOA 9) within its Complaints Management and Counselling Services Directorate, reporting to the Senior Assistant Director, Counselling Services. The post provides professional psychosocial support to external clients affected by police victimisation and to staff members, working from the headquarters in Nairobi and regional offices.

Key responsibilities

• Support the implementation of policies, strategies, guidelines, plans, standards, tools and procedures for Counselling Services
• Update records in the counselling department
• Collect and collate data for internal and external reports on counselling services
• Assess clients' psychological status and make recommendations
• Provide psychosocial services to complainants, their families, witnesses and survivors following police action or inaction
• Provide psychosocial services to staff
• Participate in the case intake committee

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Counselling, Psychology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution
• Membership of a relevant and recognised professional body
• Valid practising licence issued by the Counsellors and Psychologists Board

Required skills

• Proficiency in computer applications
