Credit Risk Manager

About the role

Oya Microcredit Limited is seeking an experienced Credit Risk Manager to lead its credit risk function in Nairobi. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will ensure loan applications are rigorously evaluated and the portfolio remains healthy.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the end‑to‑end credit risk assessment process for all loan applications.
• Guide and supervise Credit Risk Analysts in reviewing financial statements, cash flows, leverage ratios and collateral adequacy.
• Review and approve credit appraisal reports, maintaining consistency and quality.
• Set and enforce appropriate credit limits, terms and risk‑mitigation strategies.
• Monitor the loan portfolio, identifying early warning signs of default.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
• Continuously improve credit risk frameworks, policies and scoring models.
• Prepare and present risk reports and recommendations to senior management.
• Collaborate with Call Center, Operations, Portfolio and Finance teams to manage portfolio risk.
• Lead, mentor and develop the Credit Risk team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field (mandatory).
• Professional certification in Credit Risk Management or CPA (K) is an advantage.
• Minimum 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role leading a team.
• At least 2 years of experience in a micro‑credit or financial institution in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of credit reporting systems and practices.
• Proven experience in credit analysis, risk assessment and portfolio management.
