Custodial Worker

About the role

The City of Gainesville is seeking dedicated custodial workers to keep municipal facilities clean, safe, and welcoming. This position is open to internal city employees, retirees, and eligible dependents, offering a direct way to contribute to the community you live in.

Key responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and wax/vacuum vinyl tile floors.
• Wash windows, polish furniture, and dust woodwork and other surfaces.
• Collect and dispose of trash, manage recycling, and perform basic grounds tasks.
• Make minor repairs to building fixtures, equipment, and furniture.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as floor washers and buffers safely and efficiently.

Required profile

• Ability to read and write English.
• At least six months of custodial or similar maintenance experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
• Valid Florida driver’s license.
• Physical strength, agility, and normal color vision.
• Willingness to work shift schedules and attend work regularly.

Required skills

• Operating vacuum cleaners.
• Operating floor washers.
• Operating floor buffers.
• Knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment.
