Customs Clearance Officer

About the role

The Customs Clearance Officer will manage all import and export documentation, ensuring compliance with Kenyan and East African customs regulations. You will act as the primary liaison between the company, customs authorities, shipping lines, and logistics partners to facilitate smooth cargo movement.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, verify, and process customs documentation for imports and exports.
• Classify goods using HS codes and calculate applicable duties and taxes.
• Process customs entries through KRA’s iCMS system.
• Liaise with KRA, shipping lines, clearing agents, freight forwarders, and port authorities.
• Coordinate cargo inspections, verification, and release procedures.
• Monitor shipments to ensure timely clearance and delivery.
• Resolve clearance delays, discrepancies, and documentation issues.
• Maintain accurate customs records and generate clearance reports.
• Advise management on regulatory changes and support audit activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Clearing and Forwarding, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration, or related field.
• 2–3 years of experience in customs clearance, freight forwarding, logistics, or international trade.
• Practical experience with KRA Customs Systems (iCMS) and strong knowledge of customs valuation, tariff classification, and import/export procedures.
• Familiarity with customs documentation such as IDF, Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, and Certificates of Origin.
