Data Privacy Officer

About the role

Equity Bank Kenya is seeking a Data Privacy Officer to lead the development and implementation of data protection strategies across its banking operations. The role ensures that personal data is processed in a compliant, ethical, and secure manner while supporting a seamless "One Customer View" onboarding experience.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the bank’s data protection strategy, policies, standards, and procedures.
• Establish a bank‑wide data governance framework and act as the central authority for all data protection matters.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for data protection authorities and other regulators.
• Advise the Board and senior management on data protection obligations, risks, and regulatory changes.
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive data inventory and data flow maps for all personal data processed by the bank and its third‑party ecosystem.
• Monitor compliance with relevant data protection laws such as GDPR and the Kenya Data Protection Act, as well as internal policies.

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise in global data protection regulations, including GDPR and Kenya’s Data Protection Act.
• Proven experience designing and governing data protection frameworks in a multi‑jurisdictional or banking environment.
• Strong advisory capability to senior leadership and board members on privacy and compliance matters.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with regulators and internal stakeholders.
