Development Finance & Partnerships Associate

About the role

The Development Finance & Partnerships Associate will support ASR’s International Policy & Development Partnerships function, based in Nairobi. Working at the intersection of development finance, insurance and investment, the role helps identify and progress partnerships with DFIs, governments, donors and climate funds to create new insurance and risk‑financing opportunities across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Identify development finance, climate finance and insurance opportunities across African markets and monitor programmes of DFIs, MDBs, donors and governments.
• Develop concept notes, opportunity assessments and business cases, maintaining a structured pipeline of partnership opportunities.
• Support relationship building with Nairobi‑based and pan‑African development institutions, coordinating meetings, roundtables and stakeholder engagement programmes.
• Conduct market and investment research to assess protection gaps, risk‑financing needs and emerging opportunities for specialist insurance.
• Work with underwriting teams to design insurance solutions, including premium financing, blended finance, captives, risk pools and parametric products.
• Assist in preparing strategic materials, presentations and external communications for senior management and external events.

Required profile

• Strong academic background in economics, finance, international development, public policy or a related discipline.
• Excellent analytical, research and written communication skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams.
• Confidence engaging with internal and external stakeholders and a strong interest in development finance, insurance and African markets.
• Commercial awareness of how private‑sector financial solutions can support development objectives.
• Ability to work independently, proactively and collaboratively across business development, underwriting and partnership teams.
