Driver for Humanitarian Operations in Busia

About the role

The driver will transport authorised goods and passengers for Médecins Sans Frontières in Busia and across Western Kenya. The role requires strict adherence to vehicle safety, traffic regulations and MSF security procedures while supporting humanitarian activities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily vehicle checks (tires, oil, brakes, radio equipment, spare parts) and complete weekly logbook entries.
• Ensure safe loading, unloading and delivery of goods, verifying all documentation and signatures.
• Drive passengers safely, enforce speed limits, traffic rules and MSF security protocols, and verify passenger paperwork before travel.
• Maintain valid vehicle documents and driver’s licence in the vehicle at all times.
• Communicate vehicle position and any incidents using radios according to MSF communication policy.
• Report any vehicle abnormalities to the mechanic or line manager before departure.
• Attend pre‑movement briefings and post‑movement debriefings, documenting observations.
• Support additional logistics tasks as instructed by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Form Four certificate (or equivalent secondary education).
• Valid Kenyan driving licence.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
• Good knowledge of Western Kenya roads, especially Busia County.
• Basic mechanical knowledge for vehicle upkeep.
• Commitment to MSF principles, stress management and teamwork.

Required skills

• Vehicle inspection and basic maintenance.
• Radio communication and use of emergency codes.
• Knowledge of Kenyan road networks.
