Education Specialist (Temporary) – UNICEF Nairobi

About the role

The Education Specialist will support UNICEF Kenya in delivering EU‑funded “Last Mile Connectivity of Schools” and Dutch‑funded “PROSPECTS” projects, as well as providing technical assistance for climate‑resilient education systems. Reporting to the Chief of Education (P‑4), the role combines programme coordination, monitoring, and donor engagement in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate implementation, monitoring and reporting of the “Last Mile Connectivity of Schools” EU project.
• Oversee the integrated “PROSPECTS” projects funded by the Dutch government.
• Lead technical assistance activities to embed climate‑resilience into national education planning.
• Collaborate with Innovation, Child Protection, WASH, Social Policy and field offices to ensure cross‑sectoral alignment.
• Represent UNICEF in donor negotiations, regular meetings, briefings, field missions and visibility events.
• Support project development, planning and coordination together with the Education Section Chief and Innovation Manager.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree in Education, International Development or a related field.
• Proven experience in managing education‑focused programmes funded by international donors.
• Strong understanding of climate‑resilient education and equity‑focused approaches.
• Excellent communication and partnership‑building skills with government, NGOs and donor agencies.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and travel within Kenya as required.
