About the role
The Education Technical Assistant will support the Better Learning Programme (BLP) Officer in delivering accelerated education services to refugees and host‑community children in Kakuma, Kenya. This role involves coordinating with schools, PTAs, community facilitators and other stakeholders to ensure high‑quality learning outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the BLP Officer in implementing the project work plan and monitoring school‑based activities.
- Mobilise communities and raise awareness about the Accelerated Education Programme (AEP) and BLP, registering children and youth for learning.
- Prepare detailed work plans for teachers and ensure learner‑friendly delivery of curriculum content.
- Monitor participatory implementation of AEP and BLP curricula, ensuring timely completion and effective knowledge transfer.
- Distribute teaching and learning materials, maintain clear records, and support data collection, reporting and storage.
- Collaborate with PTAs, children’s groups and community facilitators to address protection concerns and promote child safeguarding.
- Submit regular progress reports to the Education Technical Officer and foster partnerships with other education and psychosocial support initiatives.
Required profile
- Kenyan citizen with a bachelor’s degree or diploma in education.
- Training and strong mastery of psychosocial support approaches for children.
- Minimum 5 years teaching experience, including work with children with disabilities or special needs.
- Understanding of child protection issues and experience working with PTAs.
- Background in humanitarian or recovery contexts, especially in complex and volatile settings.
- Cultural awareness, strong organisational and teamwork abilities.
- Fluent in English and Swahili; knowledge of the local Turkana language is an advantage.
