EHS Officer

About the role

Highlands Drinks Limited is hiring a full-time EHS Officer for its dairy plant in Kenya. The role covers inspections, compliance, training, incident management, food safety verification and liaison with regulators.

Key responsibilities

• Perform monthly EHS inspections, prepare a monthly inspection report and follow up on findings and recommendations.
• Carry out routine EHS compliance checks against pre-defined checklists across the plant on a daily or weekly basis.
• Track, review and update the plant's EHS safety board daily, and make sure safety signs and notices are visible and not covered or damaged.
• Assist in delivering formal EHS training on health and workplace safety, hazardous waste and other occupational and environmental topics, and coordinate First Aid, fire safety drills and other trainings with external agencies and government bodies.
• Inspect emergency equipment, tools and the dispensary weekly, and provide emergency response to minimize IDLH incidents.
• Ensure all workplace incidents are recorded and reported, and assist the Factory Manager in investigating accidents, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Advise on PPE specifications, verify supplied safety gear, and ensure work permits follow the right approval processes.
• Implement applicable food safety standards and verify CCPs, OPRPs and PRPs.
• Coordinate EHS activities in community outreach events and engage with regulators such as NEMA, NFA and auditors.
• Help develop and update EHS policies.
