Emergency Vehicle Technician

About the role

We are seeking an Emergency Vehicle Technician to maintain and repair fire trucks, ambulances and a wide range of heavy equipment used by the fire department. The role involves ensuring all emergency vehicles are safe, reliable and ready for rapid deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair and servicing of assigned fire vehicles and related equipment, including ARFF apparatus and ambulances.
• Conduct heavy‑equipment tasks such as engine removal, hydraulic and pneumatic system overhaul, air‑conditioning repair, and preventive maintenance.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using computerized test equipment, calibration devices and gauges.
• Rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, springs, bushings and kingpins; replace seals, bearings, axle brakes and crane rigging.
• Calibrate load‑monitoring indicators and ensure compliance with safety standards and hazardous‑waste procedures.
• Generate work orders, invoices and equipment repair records; act as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the supervisor’s absence.
• Assist with recovery operations and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian or military/tactical environments.
• High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s licence.
• Prefer EVT Level 1 certification for fire apparatus, ambulance or ARFF.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb (assist up to 100 lb) and perform typical maintenance postures.

Required skills

• Diesel engine repair and overhaul.
• Hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical system diagnostics.
• Use of computerized test equipment, calibration devices and gauges.
• Reading schematics, blueprints and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, ASME and OEM maintenance standards.
