Emergency Vehicle Technician

About the role

The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing and overhauling fire trucks, ARFF (Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting) apparatus, ambulances and other heavy emergency vehicles. The role requires hands‑on work in a workshop environment, using diagnostic equipment and technical documentation to ensure all equipment is safe and operational.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair and servicing of assigned fire vehicles and emergency equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and hydraulic failures using electronic test equipment and computerized diagnostics.
• Remove, rebuild and reinstall engines, hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, brakes and crane rigging.
• Repair air‑conditioning systems and calibrate load‑monitoring indicators.
• Prepare work orders, invoices and equipment repair records.
• Adhere to safety policies, including proper handling of hazardous waste.
• Act as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of a supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian or military environments.
• High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s licence.
• Prefer EVT Level 1 certification for fire apparatus, ambulance or ARFF.
