Estimator – Steel Fabrication

About the role

Doing Steel Fabrication is seeking an Estimator to support the sales team in preparing comprehensive bids for steel fabrication projects ranging from small to large and complex. The role involves reviewing design drawings, performing steel takeoffs, and collaborating with the Estimating Manager to develop competitive proposals.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare full estimates for steel fabrication projects, from conceptual stage through completion.
• Review and interpret design drawings and construction specifications to perform accurate steel takeoffs.
• Identify material requirements and apply budgeted hours to create detailed bids.
• Collaborate with purchasing, detailing, engineering, erection, scheduling, fabrication, coatings, and shipping teams to ensure bid accuracy.
• Maintain knowledge of field operations and project management to assess constructability.
• Utilize estimating software and MS Office to produce and manage bid documentation.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated and able to work independently.
• Strong understanding of structural steel, miscellaneous metal concepts, and construction specifications.
• Ability to read and interpret plan drawings and project specifications.
• Experience in bidding and managing work from concept to completion is preferred.
• Working knowledge of field operations and project management is a plus.

Required skills

• Advanced computer skills with estimating software.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Working knowledge of blueprints and construction specifications.
