Facilitator & Moderator

About the role

Kilimo Trust is seeking a Facilitator and Moderator to lead in‑person meetings, workshops and stakeholder dialogues in Busia as part of its agricultural value‑chain initiatives. This on‑site contract role focuses on planning and guiding interactive sessions to ensure inclusive, productive discussions aligned with project objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare facilitation materials and agendas for workshops and stakeholder meetings.
• Coordinate with project teams, local partners and community representatives to organise events.
• Moderate panel discussions, group work and community dialogues, managing time and participant expectations.
• Document key outcomes, decisions and action points, and produce clear summary reports.
• Engage participants from diverse backgrounds, ensuring respectful and inclusive interaction.
• Provide feedback to project staff to improve future facilitation sessions.

Required profile

• Strong facilitation and moderation experience, preferably in workshops, training sessions or community meetings.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Background or strong interest in agriculture, rural development or related fields within the East African context.
• Ability to plan events, organise logistics and coordinate multiple partners on‑site.
• Proficiency in report writing and documentation of meeting outcomes.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages spoken in Busia is an advantage.
• Demonstrated respect for cultural, gender and socio‑economic diversity.
• Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, Communication or a related field preferred.
• Previous experience in NGO or development project environments is beneficial.
