Farm Manager – Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Farming

About the role

Our client seeks an experienced, hands‑on Farm Manager to oversee Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming operations across two farms in Kabati and Makuyu, focusing on organic waste bioconversion and achieving production targets.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of both farms, managing the full BSF production cycle from breeding to harvesting.
• Monitor and control temperature, humidity, lighting and other environmental parameters.
• Source, receive and process organic waste/feedstock, ensuring consistent availability for production.
• Implement biosecurity, hygiene and sanitation measures to prevent contamination.
• Conduct quality checks on eggs, larvae and frass, maintaining high product standards.
• Supervise, train and coordinate farm technicians and other staff, allocating duties and monitoring performance.
• Manage procurement, inventory levels and distribution of finished products.
• Maintain accurate production records, analyse yields and mortality rates, and identify improvement opportunities.
• Support budgeting, cost forecasting and research into improved BSF farming techniques.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agriculture, Entomology, Animal Science, Biological Sciences or related field.
• 3–6 years of relevant experience, preferably in BSF or insect farming and agricultural production.
• Proven ability to manage production teams and oversee farm‑level operations.
• Strong knowledge of organic waste/feedstock management and biosecurity practices.

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of BSF biology, lifecycle and bioconversion systems.
• Experience with production data collection, analysis and record‑keeping.
• Expertise in quality control, hygiene and biosecurity protocols.
• Ability to manage organic waste/feedstock handling and processing.
