Fiber Optic Technician

About the role

The Fiber Optic Technician will join the Network Operations team to deliver on‑site installation, splicing and maintenance of fiber infrastructure for customers in the Thika and Westlands coverage area. This full‑time, field‑based role involves direct interaction with clients and requires adherence to safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Install fiber drops, ONUs, wireless access points and related CPE at customer premises following company standards.
• Perform fiber splicing, termination and conduct optical signal testing using power meters and OTDR equipment to verify link quality.
• Troubleshoot connectivity faults, including ONU/WAP provisioning issues and signal degradation, and provide on‑site resolutions.
• Carry out preventive maintenance on distribution boxes, splitters and aerial fiber routes.
• Escalate core network or OLT‑side faults to the Network Operations team with detailed diagnostic notes.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, materials used and job completion reports.
• Ensure proper handling, storage and accountability of tools and equipment issued for fieldwork.
• Observe safety procedures when working at height, near roads or with optical/electrical equipment.
• Communicate professionally with customers during site visits and support new site surveys and network expansion rollouts.

Required profile

• Diploma or certificate in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field.
• 1–2 years of hands‑on experience with GPON/FTTH installation and fiber splicing.
• Familiarity with ONU/ONT and wireless AP equipment, optical test tools and basic router/CPE configuration.
• Valid driving licence preferred; KPLC class 14 considered an advantage.
