About the role
The Fisheries Officer will lead and support fisheries and aquaculture initiatives in Nairobi and surrounding communities. This role involves providing technical guidance, conducting field assessments, and ensuring sustainable management of fish resources.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement fisheries and aquaculture projects and activities.
- Provide technical support and guidance to fish farmers, fisherfolk, and community groups.
- Conduct field assessments, surveys, and data collection on fisheries resources.
- Monitor fish production, harvesting, processing, and marketing activities.
- Promote sustainable fisheries management practices and environmental conservation.
- Prepare technical reports, project updates, and recommendations.
- Facilitate training and capacity‑building programs for stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with fisheries regulations, policies, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with government agencies, research institutions, and development partners.
- Support project planning, budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation activities.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Marine Science, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in fisheries management, aquaculture, or community‑based natural resource projects.
- Knowledge of fisheries regulations, aquaculture systems, and sustainable resource management.
- Experience in project implementation, data collection, and report writing.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel frequently to field locations.
