Full Stack Engineer (Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js)

About the role

A company based in Nairobi is looking for a full stack engineer to develop and maintain web applications. The role covers frontend and backend work, database design, integrations, deployment and production support.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain web applications with Next.js and TypeScript, building responsive, accessible and user-friendly interfaces.
• Build backend APIs and business logic with Node.js, TypeScript and Fastify or similar frameworks.
• Design and maintain PostgreSQL databases using Prisma ORM.
• Integrate third-party APIs, GPS tracking platforms, IoT services and other external systems.
• Implement secure authentication, authorization and multi-tenant access controls.
• Manage background jobs, queues, caching and scheduled processes with Redis and related technologies.
• Write clean, documented and tested code, and write unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
• Review existing systems, improve performance, reliability and security, and take ownership of features from planning to production.
• Containerise applications with Docker, deploy them to Linux servers and cloud infrastructure, and configure reverse proxies, domains, SSL certificates and environments.
• Support CI/CD workflows, monitor production applications and resolve technical incidents.
• Work with product, operations and management teams and participate in code reviews.

Required profile

• At least 4 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong practical experience with TypeScript, React and Next.js, and experience building both frontend apps and backend APIs.
• Good knowledge of Node.js and modern server-side development.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Git and collaborative workflows, and deploying applications in production.
• Ability to work with limited supervision, strong problem-solving skills, and good written and spoken English.
